Once in effect, multi agency domestic homicide reviews will be a statutory requirement and this day is aimed to help relevant agencies prepare for the implementation
The requirement to carry out a multi agency review of domestic homicides is anticipated to be implemented in the autumn of 2008. Section 9 of the Domestic Violence, Crimes and Victims Act 2004 places specific obligations on public authorities to establish a review body and undertake a review of all domestic homicides. The Statutory purpose of the review is to identify the lessons to be learned and in practice this will include;
- In particular, about how local professionals and agencies work together to safeguard victims
- Identify how lessons learned will be acted upon and what is expected to change as a result, and
- Improving interagency working and improving protection for domestic violence victims
This professional development day will introduce the legislation and home office guidance, looking at how the review process will impact on public authorities and voluntary organisations
- Background to legislation
- Setting up the Review including terms of reference
- Review Investigation Focus
- CDRP perspective of S9 reviews and policy context
- Family expectations
